KARACHI - The members of Sindh Assembly held a farewell photo session at the premises of the Assembly on Thursday afternoon.
The existing assembly is completing its term on March 16.
Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, MQM’s opposition leader Sardar Ahmed and almost all members of the assembly attended the photo session.
It is the first ever photo session of an assembly completing its five-year term. For the first time ever in democratic history of Pakistan, assemblies are completing their full constitutional tenure.
In scorching heat, the MPAs waited for about half an hour until all the members seated and Chief Minister arrived.
Before the photo session, the members while capturing the memories of five years also took photos with each others on their mobile phones.
Later, a ceremony was held at the assembly, where Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro handed certificates of appreciation to each MPA for their participation in assembly proceedings and becoming part of first ever provincial legislature which is completing its constitutional five year term.
The members termed the initiative taken by the Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro as a prudent and good tradition.
Khuhro while addressing on the occasion said that democracy had been strengthened and nobody could derail the democracy in the country despite conspiracies were hatched against the democratic system and elected assemblies but elected assemblies were going to complete its 5-year term.
He said that gathering is held as a mark of jubilation of completion of tenure.
The speaker Sindh is first custodian in Sindh Assembly’s history who has started these gatherings including moots for media, MPAs, Women and Celebrities.
The moot was attended by majority of MPAs and their respective parliamentary leaders including Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Pir Mazharul Haq, Agha Siraj Durrani, manzoor wassan, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Ayaz Soomro, Syed Sardar Ahmed, Arif Mustafa Jatoi, Razaq Rahimoon and others.
Speaker Khuhro said that first ever completion of the tenure of parliament and assemblies in country was not only a big achievement but it would give strength to democracy and people of Pakistan. He said the democratic institutions survived of conspiracies and tricks with the support of people.
Mr Khuhro said that democracy in Pakistan was deeply founded and it cannot be derailed for the sake of dictatorship and anti democratic norms.
He said that Pakistan Peoples Party would follow the democratic norms and go to the people for next mandate in the province and they would take pride to present themselves for accountability. “We never avoid sacrifices, as it is a trend and tradition of Pakistan Peoples Party,” he added.
