ISLAMABAD - Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour has said that currently, Pakistan Railways (PR) has 281 non-functional Diesel Electric Locomotives due to non-availability of spare parts. Talking to APP he said that 250 out of 281 locomotives were being repaired/rehabilitated under different repair plans and projects with the approximate cost Rs 1.721 million. He said that only provision of new 400 locomotives could turn PR into a profitable earning organization.
He said that hundred acres of railways land was retrieved from the illegal occupant and efforts were being made to vacate the remaining land. To another question, the minister said that the total route length of railways network was 7791 km and no track has been removed since 2008 to date.
