SWAT - The University of Swat won 2nd prize in All Pakistan Inter-University Radio Production Competition organized by the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. Shaista Hakeem, a student of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been nominated for the award in the category of News Report, which she will receive at a grand ceremony scheduled today in Lahore.

Shasta’s story was based on second marriages and its social implications.

She tried to highlight in the report that those women who left with no choice and remain single after her husband died and how she manage to grow up her kids.

A group of students work collectively on the issue and produced a news story on this neglected issue of gender violence. The story is based on a widow and mother of four.

Fifteen years back she became widow and due to social obligations she didn’t make it to marry again. She decided to live single and grow her children an educated and responsible citizen.

The story is about her struggle and hardships she faced during this hard time.

Objective of the award is to provide platform for the youth from all universities and degree awarding institutions in Pakistan to highlight gender based violence in the society through radio production.

The story was produced very professionally and which is selected for 2nd prize across the country. Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Jahanzeb Khan applause the success of journalism students and congratulated them for the award.
