RAWALPINDI - An enraged student of matriculation along with his cousin gunned down four members of his family including father, brother and two sisters over a domestic dispute at Mohra Janjua, the suburb of Jalti on Thursday, police said.
The alleged killers were Muhammad Usman and Munir while the deceased identified as Muhammad Azad, 50, Qadeer Ahmed, 28 and two sisters Aqsa Azad, 20 and Ayesha Azad, 18.
The local police filed a murder case with no arrest so far.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station (PS) Jalti Mehar Zulfiqar, the incident took place at Mohra Janjua Thursday morning, when an enraged youth Muhammad Usman along with his cousin Munir opened fires with 30-bore pistol and 12-bore riffle on his father Muhammad Azad, elder brother Qadeer Ahmed and two young sisters Aqsa and Ayesha killing them on the spot.
They managed to escape from the scene after committing the crime, the SHO said adding that the police brought the dead bodies to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for autopsies.
Later, the dead bodies were handed over to heirs for burial ceremony, he said.
Replying to a query, the SHO said during initial investigation it was suggested that the son killed his four family members over some matrimonial issue. When asked was it not an honor killing, he said that it would be premature to say any thing about the incident without thorough investigation. Several police parties have been constituted which were conducting raids to arrest the killers, he stated. On the other hand, the horrific incident gripped the whole village into fear while heart-moving scenes could be witnessed during the funeral prayers and burial of the dead bodies of three members of a family.
Urdu short story competition at FJWU: The campus Radio Voice of Women (VoW) of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) arranged Urdu short story competition to celebrate International Women’s Day here.The theme of the short story competition was “Aurat Tarey Rang Hazar”. Realization of women issues and importance of women education in the development of societies was highlighted in these stories.
Mehmooda Ghazia and Dr Huma Jhangir, well known fiction stories writers, adjudged the competition. Students from different department of the university participated in that.
The purpose of arranging this competition was provision of platform to students where they can show off their writing powers and express their emotions and thoughts in words.
In Urdu short story, first prize was awarded to Maimoona Najam of Public Administration Department, while second was given to Umme Kalsoom of Communication and Media Studies Department while the third position was shared by Sabeen Sohail and Ayesha Rahim of English and Software Engineering Department respectively.
Addressing on the occasion, Mehmooda Ghazia said that women should be given the right of taking their own decision. They constitute 52 per cent of the total population of Pakistan. So, they do not deserve a neglected attitude and should not lag behind. She underlined the need for sending all girls to schools. Until women are not economically self-sufficient, the society cannot progress, she added. She also shared her poem with the audience on same theme.
Shama Khalid, Senior Producer Radio VoW expressed her gratitude and applauded the selection of topic. She said that it was our responsibility to work together and eliminate discrimination against women.
Meanwhile, Pink Ribbon Campaign supported by Higher Education Commission was launched at the university premises. In this regard different posters and banners were placed on notice boards and flyers were distributed among students and Faculty members.
The basic objective of this campaign was to create awareness among females about the breast cancer and encourage women to discuss this serious issue with courage. It is the moral obligation of everyone to educate the females about breast cancer as breast cancer is one of the major causes of death among women of Pakistan and it is the need of the hour that we should raise awareness about this disease.
