CJP takes notice

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on Friday took suo moto notice of children’s death in Tharparkar district of Sindh due to acute malnutrition and called report from chief secretary Sindh.
The case is fixed for hearing on Monday (10th March) in Islamabad. The chief justice directed that officer of the Sindh government not below the rank of additional secretary should appear along with report in court on behalf of the chief secretary Sindh. The Chief Justice took notice on the news reports and passed the order that it is the serious violation of Article 9 of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, Justice (Retd) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani for taking suo moto notice on the famine like situation in Tharparker district, Sindh, where at least 32 malnourished children are reported to have died.
Justice Chaudhry wrote that about 175,000 families have been affected with the famine. The situation is tantamount to denial of fundamental rights of citizens of Tharparker under Article 9 & 14 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 as according to print and electronic media no adequate arrangements have been made to save the lives of Human beings as well as live stock.
He had asked the incumbent Chief Justice to examine initiating proceeding to enforce fundamental rights of a large number of public of district Tharparker Under Article 184(3) of the Constitution.
