The decision of the government to resume peace dialogue with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is commendable. Prime Minister issued directions in this regard to the four member government negotiating team headed by Mr Irfan Siddiqui during a meeting on March 4, 2014. This is a bold step taken by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, I am sure it was not an easy decisions to take in the face of all the opposition he faces.

The TTP had announced ceasefire and then the attack on Islamabad district courts happened. Although the TTP has distanced itself from the said attacks the dialogue process has been damaged by these acts. The government is giving the peace process every chance even in the face of continued threats. The second phase of talks needs to show some results, we must find a way to end this perpetual cycle of terrorism. Both sides need to take a serious stance in this regard and find a lasting solution to peace.

AMJAD KHAN,
