Forgoing merit and discipline in foreign appointments would leave no place for improving Pakistan’s image at a time when the nation is frayed by terrorist activities and the green passport has become suspicion the world over. It was disappointing to read about the plan of the corrupt political regime to invade the foreign missions of Pakistan by opting nepotism as a policy of choice and appointing favorites abroad. Pragmatic personal, having strong credentials in diplomacy are the need in this time when our eastern neighour does not lose any single opportunity to isolate, defame and distort the image of Pakistan. Political appointments would act as the final nail in our coffin. Propaganda and diplomacy are the most modern tools to enhance national attributes of power and to build a soft image of the country in the world.
