ISLAMABAD - The Asian Tennis Federation (ATF)’s 14 & under Super Series Tennis Championship 2016 commenced here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Monday.
Sameer Ahmed of Lahore booked his place in the main round of the event after brushing aside M Rahim of Islamabad in the qualifying round match. Sameer was too hot to handle for Rahim, who was unable to win a single game in the first set, but in the second set, Rahim played a bit better and managed to win a single game before bowing out 6-1.
The PTF awarded wildcards to Sameer Ahmed (Lahore), Abdul Samad Areejo (Karachi), Naalain Abbas, Wee Yi Shen (Malaysia) and Subhan Bin Salik (Islamabad). Three foreign players, including one from Sri Lanka, one from Malaysia and one from Great Britain, will be seen in action during the event. Huzaffa Abdul Rehman is top seed, Hamza Bin Rehan second seed, M Said (Great Britain) third seed and Yanishkhe Cooray (Sri Lanka) is the fourth seed. The first round main draw matches will start today (Tuesday) at 10am. The opening ceremony will start at 11am where Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) president Salim Saifullah Khan will be chief guest.
