Four armed dacoits looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth Rs0.3 million from a local jewelry shop, in a broad daylight dacoity.
The incident occurred in Malakwal on Monday.
Reportedly, the accused stormed into the jewelry shop owned by Rana Azeem, made hostage all the staff and customers at gunpoint and started looting. The accused looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables (worth Rs0.3 million) and fled away on motorcycles.
Later, the local jewellers observed shutterdown against the dacoity, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, on the directives of DCO Muzaffar Sial, Regional Transport Officer Faryal Fakhar challaned 141 drivers for not complying with government fixed transport fare and fined them to the tune of Rs65,000. Despite a crackdown on overcharging, the transport owners continue overcharging, the passengers reported. The rickshaw drivers raised fare up to Rs20 per passenger from Bus Adda to Judicial Complex. They are still charging at the same rate despite the fact that petrol price has come down to Rs64 from Rs 108 per litre.
