Ilamabad - “The high class research being carried out in Pakistani research institutes is drastically helping minimise the scientific void between developed and developing countries, said Dr Joseph Niemela, Director Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (AS-ICTP), while addressing the inaugural session of International Scientific Spring (ISS)-2016.
Dr Niemela, a US national who hails from Italy, said he always feels like home in Pakistan. He is very much hopeful about the scientific research scenario of Pakistan.
He said that in ICTP research studies programs “we receive 50% research students from developed countries while remaining 50 % come from rest of the world.” He emphasised the researchers to explore more collaborative horizon within domain of ICTP and NCP research collaborations.
Prior to this Dr Hafeez Hoorani, Director General NCP, while giving a detailed presentation about the vision and goals of NCP said that NCP has become a world class research institute with international acclamation.
He said that NCP has users’ oriented research facilities and all researchers across the country are getting benefit from our technical facilities.
Dr Khurshid Hasanain, scientific secretary of event, welcomed the distinguished guests. He said that objective of holding this activity is to acquaint and familiarize young Pakistani researchers with knowledge of foreign experts. He thanked COMSATS and ICTP for their generous support in organizing this event.
He said that over three hundred young Pakistani MPhil/PhD students, researchers, university faculty and more than 20 foreign invited speakers and participants have been taking part in the deliberations of ISS including foreign speakers from Algeria, Switzerland, China, USA, Italy, Sweden, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
This year the lectures contain mostly overviews of advances in the chosen areas for general audience while the lectures/talks in parallel sessions cover the recent research on the specific topics. Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Condensed Matter and Nano Sciences, Particle Physics & Cosmology, Plasma Physics are main topics of ISS-2016.
