LAHORE - Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana yesterday said that politicians should learn from their past mistakes as peaceful co-existence was the only way forward to steer the country out of crises.

He was talking to Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah who called on him at the Governor House after a hard-hitting news conference against the PML-N government at the residence of Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo.

PPP leaders, Navid Ch, Mian Misbahur Rehman and Azizur Rehman Chan were also present in the meeting.

Issues related to national politics came under discussion, according to an official handout which also quoted the two leaders having exchanged pleasantries on the occasion.

The governor told the opposition leader that PML-N government had always attached greater importance to constructive criticism from the opposition parties. He stressed that politicians should not repeat the bitter experiences of the past and work for the public good.

Khurshid Shah was of the view that a strong opposition was a guarantee to a stable government. It is responsibility of the opposition to keep the government on the right track in the public interest, he added.

Shah also said that it was a normal practice that parliamentarians keep meeting with each other. Both said they were friends since years.

Also, while addressing a 40-member delegation of the Allied Officers from various countries of the world currently getting training at Command and Staff College, Quetta, the governor said that Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was proactively taking measures to turn around the economy.

“The revival of economy is his foremost priority along with overcoming the energy shortage, eradicating extremism and promoting human rights. Our military operation Zarb-e-Azb has borne great results. Our nation has made a choice and we will not allow the cancer of extremism to infect the fabric of our society.

Our desire is to have both peace and security within our borders and outside our borders. We want friendly relations with nations in our region, and the world at large”, he told the officers belonging to different countries.

Governor said that the actual story of Pakistan was far more different from the ongoing narrative in the international media. “It is a story of entrepreneurial spirit, selfless hard work and unrelenting resilience in the face of challenges and odds”, he averred.
