KARACHI - On the directives of acting City Nazim Nasreen Jalil the EDO E&IP Dr Shahab Imam along with the magistrates of Revenue Department carried out surprise raids in different areas of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town to check the prices of milk, meat, flour, rice, fruits, vegetables and other utility items. During the operation the City Government team imposed fines of over Rs 0.1 million on 40 profiteers while they also sent 4 traders to jail on account of overcharging. According to details the magistrates of Revenue Department under the supervision of EDO E&IP carried out raids in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town during which they imposed fines on Times Medics, Murad Medicos and other famous super stores and shops. The team also took action against the overcharging of utility items in Tuesday Buchat Bazars at Gulistan-e-Jauhar and near Urdu College. Besides the stall holders the magistrates also imposed fines on the organisers of these bazaars. The City Government officials held 4 shopkeepers at Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, Bhayani Apartments, Maskan Apartments and other adjoining areas for indulging in profiteering. The EDO E&IP Dr. Shahab Imam and Magistrates of Revenue Department have again warned the traders to refrain from selling utility items on excessive prizes or they will have to face strict action. The EDO &IP has also appealed citizens to ask for official prize list before buying utility items and to register their complaints at 1339 so that action could be taken against the profiteers. Meanwhile the DDOs Revenue of City District Government Karachi under the supervision of Additional EDO Revenue Matanat Ali Khan imposed fines of Rs.328, 900 on 98 milk sellers for overcharging. They also sent 14 milk sellers to jail in different towns of the city.
