ISLAMABAD - Election Commission of Pakistan Wednesday after facing strong criticism from political parties on the postponement of bye-election, issued revised election schedule according to which the bye-elections would be held on June 26th. According to the press note issued from ECP, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary, informed that the ECP has issued Revised Schedule for Fresh Elections/Bye-Elections, 2008 and necessary Notifications in this regard have been issued today (Wednesday) by the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Qazi Muhammad Farooq in respect of vacant seats in the National Assembly as well as all the four Provincial Assemblies. Secretary ECP also said through a press note that the stages of the schedule now commence from the filing of nomination papers from 8-5-2008 to 13-5-2008 and the date of polling will be 26-6-2008. However the detail of Revised Election Schedule for Bye-Elections is that dates for filing of nomination papers with the Returning Officers by the candidates are May 8th to May 13th. Dates for scrutiny of nomination papers by the Returning Officers are May 14th to may 20th and the last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officers rejecting/accepting nomination papers is may 24th. Last date for deciding appeals by the Tribunals has been set by the ECP as May 31st. However the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 2nd. The publication of revised list of candidates is June 2nd whereas the polling would be held on June 26th.   Secretary ECP also clarified that the candidates, who have filed Nomination Papers with the Returning Officers concerned by 5th May, need not file their Nomination Papers afresh. However, the candidates who filed their Nomination Papers on the 6th May would be required to file their Nomination Papers afresh within the time specified in the Notifications for filing their Nomination Papers.
