I would like to draw the attention of the federal and provincial government toward disturbances created on the behest of district government, Chitral. These disturbances are created through acquisition of unnecessary lands for link roads approved by the MMA government, for which the district govt could not acquire land before November 2007 because of the fear of a law and order situation. Such lands are being acquired in Goldoor, Rehankot, Moghlandeh and Bakarabad in Chitral town. There are two issues of public interest here. Land being acquired is actually more than double the needed acreage and the price is fixed at less than one third of the prevailing market rate. The peaceful citizens of Chitral are being tortured through Police, Revenue, Works and Services departments. I, therefore, request the provincial government to intervene and acquire only the land needed on market rate. -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, via e-mail, April 23.
