It was disturbing to know that our Minister of State for Education regards the subject of Islamiat "unnecessary and a burden on students". The principles elucidated in the Islamiat books for Intermediate are actually the basics that every Muslim student should be familiar with. It should be taught, as it has always been, with active participation of students so that they know the teachings of Islam and implement them in their lives. It is very necessary and a welcome burden, if at all. -SEHAR AMJAD, Karachi, via e-mail, April 23.
