KARACHI (PR) - Germany is a right destination to pursue higher education. This was said by the Consul General of Germany Dr Christian Brecht at a reception hosted to introduce Director DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Mrs Ursula Saarbeck to the academic community of Karachi. The German Consul General speaking on the occasion said students who are pursuing higher studies should consider Germany for their higher studies because of the quality of the education. Mrs Saarbeck thanked the German Consul for arranging a gathering of academics and said Pakistan-Germany cultural ties had been established as far back as 1961. She said Germany was interested in furthering academic ties with Pakistan and had set up a DAAD office in Islamabad to pursue this objective. She said more than 350 Pakistanis were in Germany to do their PhD studies under the auspices of the HEC in Pakistan and DAAD. Of these about 60 had already completed their PhD and returned to Pakistan to serve the country. She said most of the students were pursuing studies in engineering, information technology and medicine. The DAAD Director said her organisation believed that education should be about quality and not quantity. She said quality of education in Germany was second to none but very competitive as it was subsidised by taxpayers. She pointed out though education was expensive but not as expensive as the United Kingdom.
