ISLAMABAD (APP) - Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal has said the ratio of 'Bardana (gunny bags) for growers has been increased. Talking to a private TV channel, he said now a farmer would be provided 'Bardana up to 500 bags. The Minister said the procedure regarding distribution of gunny bags had also been made simple and every grower is getting them under fair policy of the government. Nazar Muhammad Gondal informed that per acre yield of wheat as compared to previous season was less adding the government is focusing to make strategy to enhance production. The Minister said that he had himself visited various areas of Punjab to observe wheat procurement process. He said the government was paying special attention towards the deprived segments of society and all out efforts were being made to support and encourage farming community in the country. He said the officials of Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Supply Corporation (PASSCO) had been directed to facilitate farmers at procurement centres and there should be no negligence in this regard. Nazar Muhammad Gondal said efforts were on to minimizing the role of middleman particularly to support and encourage small growers. Up to 50 bags would be provided to the farmers on personal security, he said adding solid steps were being taken to ensure provision of suitable price of wheat to the farmers. The channel added, this year, the federal government has fixed 16 lac metric tonnes wheat procurement target for PASCO against 12 lac metric tonnes of last year. Gross wheat procurement target of all four provinces and PASCO was fixed 7.5 million tonnes for the current year.
