SC orders DIG to recover student

ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court Friday ordered Deputy Inspector General Islam-abad Police Binyamin to recover a missing FSc student, Hassan Sharjeel, who is son of a journalist Shakeel Turabi, within a week. The apex court observed inaccuracies in DIG Binyamin statements that the secret agencies were also questioned about the boy but they denied to have the boy in their custody and added that Shakils son is allegedly involved in jihadist activities. In his remarks, Justice Ramday said that what kind of 'Jin and 'Bhoot captured the policemen that they were unable to perform their duties. A three member-bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday and Justice Ghulam Rabbani during suo moto hearing of the case observed that 'how is it possible that police chief of city dont know about a child kidnapped four months ago. In the course of hearing, DIG Police Islamabad Binyamin presented before the court and when asked about the abducted child named Hassan Sharjil, he said that he did not know anything. The CJ said responding to the unawareness of the DIG that How is it possible that the city police chief dont know about a child kidnapped four months ago. The CJ warned the DIG that if the child was not recovered, the court would take action against him adding four months have elapsed that the child is missing and if the court did not take suo moto notice, the police would have remained silent. The DIG submitted a report in the court, on which, the CJ said that the court did not need such futile reports adding the court should be informed of the realities. Expressing displeasure over the DIG, the CJ asked whether the police functioning was only for registering the cases and withdrawing them adding if the child was recovered, the professional faculties of the DIG would be acknowledged. During the course of hearing, Shakeel Turabi apprised the court that DIG Binyamin was lying in the apex court that he was not aware about whereabouts of his son Hassan Sharjeel. Turabi told the court that his son Hassan Sharjil was abducted on January 5, 2010 and after that DIG Binyamin assured him of the early recovery of the child but he later backed out. He told the court on 13 January DIG Binyamin contacted him on his cell number and assured that Hassan would be released within two days but despite the passage of 4 months his son could not be released from General Head Quarter (GHQ). The court directed the DIG to recover Hassan Sharjeel otherwise the court would send him behind the bar. Chief Justice of Pakistan expressed his displeasure over the DIG and ordered the police chief to recover the boy within a week or confess failure in written so as his high ups can be informed that he is not eligible for the office. The case was adjourned till May 14.
