NEW YORK-The New York Police Department called in a bomb squad after finding a suspicious cooler left in the crowded Times Square on Friday, and after an hour-long investigation gave an all-clear signal, saying the package contained only water bottles. The streets around Times Square were immediately opened to traffic, which was blocked by yellow tapes. No evacuation were ordered from buildings, but workers were told to stay indoors as the police responded. The cooler was found about a block from where a smoking vehicle and a failed car bomb was found over the weekend. The bomb squad X-rayed the soft-sided green cooler found on the pedestrian mall to determine, 'in an abundance of caution, whether it posed a threat, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. Six NYPD officers opened the cooler, took out its contents and carried it off about an hour later, when the department said there was no threat.
