OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Accusing the sons of Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal of grabbing 11 acre piece of land in the area of Chah Dhabanwala at gunpoint, the Anjuman Muzareen Punjab on Saturday demanded that the provincial government should initiate a legal action against them. According to the claim, Rana Shahzad Iqbal and Rana Mujeeb Iqbal along with some 50 to 60 persons attacked their women, men while opening fires on May 3 at about 4pm. Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, Anjuman office-bearers Meher Abdul Staar, Chaudhry Liaqat Ali, Baba Khushi Wala Dola, Farooq Tariq, the secretary Pakistan Kisan Rabta Committee and Azra Irshad, the Chairperson of Women Workers Helpline, said both the accused opened fires on protesting people while victimising the women of severe torture with rifles resultantly the villagers blocked the main Grand Trunk (GT) Road. They chanted slogans against the brutal act of the Speakers sons saying if the offspring of such a high profile dignity are involved in the felony act, what would be the condition of a common citizen, it was added. According to them, the police promised them to take take legal action against the responsible. But later, they said, the police started intimidating the main victim, Liaqat Ali, to withdraw the names of Rana Shahzad and Rana Mujeeb from his application. The police lodged two fake FIRs 148 and 149 under sections 186, 427 and 144 against the protesting villagers instead of taking action against the accused when the victims refused to withdraw the Speakers sons names from their application, they added. Earlier, they said the accused cordoned off the village besides blocking their way of visiting any hospital for their medical treatment. They further said the accused were using vehicles of seven police stations including PS Siray Mahel, PS Chunian, PS Radha Kishan, PS Pattoki City, PS Phool Nagar City and PS Phool Nagar Saddar in order to suppress the victims. We have submitted three applications but none of the police officers SHO Hassan Raza Butt and DSP Phool Nagar Mirza Qadoos Baig are showing interest to take action against the accused, they added. They appealed to the Punjab chief minister, chief justice and IG Punjab to take action against the accused and provide them with justice.
