SHC dismisses MQM's Karachi delimitation petition

The Sindh High Court has dismissed a petition filed by the Muttahida Qaumi movement against the delimitation of constituencies in Karachi.  The SHC bench hearing the petition ruled that it could not interfere with the decision of the Supreme Court.  The Supreme Court had ordered the delimitation of constituencies in the city while hearing the Karachi law and order case.  In its order, the Sindh High Court stated that the petitioners could approach the Supreme Court or the relevant tribunal.

The MQM had initially challenged the SC verdict and filed two review petitions in this regards which were dismissed by the apex court.

The Election Commission of Pakistan, in March, notified the delimitation of three constituencies of National Assembly and eight constituencies of the Sindh Assembly in Karachi.

The MQM and Pakistan People’s Party filed separate petitions in the Sindh High Court against the ECP move.
