ISLAMABAD - The major public sector hospital of the capital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), has been put on high alert till May 12 due to general elections.

Pims Administrator Professor Dr Iqbal Memon has issued the orders. No leave will be granted to any staff during this period and all heads of clinical departments and non-clinical departments /supervisory staff have been requested to keep themselves and their subordinate staff in place of duty and prepared for any emergency situation.

All staff members have been directed to contact in case of any emergency to Professor Imran Sikander and Dr Ayesha Esani Majeed.

Pims has finalised all the arrangements for any emergency situation during the elections and during election campaign. Pims Spokesperson Dr Waseem Khawaja said God forbid if any emergency situation arises, the disaster plan of Pims emergency will be activated and this consists of opening of disaster cupboard in the emergency where 500 patients treatment medicines are stored and along with operation theatre material and medicines are stored so that medicines and operation theatre medicines will be available round the clock.

More than 400 beds will be created in case of any emergency. The beds in emergency will be increased from 30 to 100 and more than 1500 Pims staff will be available in hospital round the clock during elections till May 12 including nurses, doctors, paramedical staff, security staff, telephone operators, pharmacist and dispensary staff. Special roster of all the staff has also been made and published for election period.
