QUETTA/SWAVI - The residence of PML-N candidate and former federal minister Zubida Jalal was attacked with hand grenade in Kech district on Tuesday while two power pylons were exploded near Sibi and a school was exploded in Kohlu.

Unidentified armed men hurled a hand grenade at the house of PML-N candidate for NA-272 Zubida Jalal in Kech district that landed inside the house. However, no loss of life was reported.

PML-N leader Zubida Jalal was not in the house at the time of the attack.

Mand Assistant Commissioner Hussain Baloch told TheNation that the incident occurred in Mandsouro near headquarters of Turbat Kech district. “The blast damaged the house but luckily no loss of life occurred,” he added.

The attackers fled after throwing the grenade.

Separately, unidentified armed men exploded two power towers at Nothal area near Sibi, suspending power supply to various areas.

In Mawand area of Kohlu, a school building was exploded with explosive device.

Law enforcement agencies recovered 5-kgs explosives planted with post office in Dalbandin.

Sources said that unidentified men opened fire on Quetta-Karachi highway in Mastung area to spread fear and panic.

One election campaigner was killed and three other were injured when the election rally of the Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) came under gunfire in the Baja region of Sawabi.

After addressing a public meeting in Baja village, AJIP Chairman Shahram was attacked by unidentified miscreants who opened fire with Kalashnikovs at the rally.   The AJIP chief remained unhurt but one of his supporters was killed while three other got injured. Shahram was a Sawabi district nazim and is contesting from NA-13 Swabi and PK-32 Swabi.

The deceased campaigner was identified as Junaid Khan who belonged to Panjman village. The injured were: Wisal Khan of Panjman, Sultan Hussain of Pabbini and Fazal Muhammad of Bamkhel. 

The injured were taken to the district headquarter hospital. Doctors in the hospital said that one of them was in serious condition and he was referred to Lady Reading hospital, Peshawar.

The AJIP chief condemned the attack and termed it a cowardice act.  In Quetta, five activists of two political parties were injured in a skirmish.

According to details, workers of two political parties exchanged gunfire after a scuffle in Haji Ghaibi Road area of Quetta.

The injured were identified as Nawab Khan, Aziz Khan, Samiullah, Muhammad Azeem and Abdus Sattar.  Following the incident, heavy contingents of police and FC reached the spot and cordoning off the area to control the situation.

In Badin, unknown armed men attacked the election office of a PML-N candidate and injured a worker. The miscreants stormed into the office of PML-N candidate Ismail Raho. The attackers ransacked the election office and injured a party worker who resisted the attack. The wounded activist was shifted to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, talking to media persons Ismail Raho blamed that his opponents feared their defeat therefore they were using such tactics to pressurise and terrorise the party workers.

Monitoring adds:

Two Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists including an old party guard, Aslam alias Alam, were gunned down while four others were injured in an armed attack at Liberty Chowk Hyderabad on Tuesday night. The other deceased is identified as Azam Qureshi, while one passerby, Abdul Razzaq Channa, was also killed.

Aslam alias Alam was sitting along with other party activists when four armed motorcyclists targeted them.  An unconfirmed report said that one of the assailants went to Alam and shot him at point blank range.
