Mirza-Hingis cruise into final

Madrid - The top-ranked women’s doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis entered the final of the Madrid Masters by beating unseeded Vania King and Alla Kudryavtseva 6-2, 6-0 on Friday.

The top seeds needed just 51 minutes to get the better of the American-Russian duo in the clay court tournament that serves as a preparation for the French Open, which begins later this month. Mirza and Hingis have already won titles in Sydney, Brisbane, the Australian Open and St Petersburg this season.

The Indo-Swiss pair will vie for their fifth title of the year at Madrid against the French duo of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. Garcia and Mladenovic beat Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 6-2,6-3 in the semi-finals. It is Mirza-Hingis’ second consecutive final against Garcia-Mladenovic after losing to the French duo in the final of the Stuttgart Open.

The top seeds were aggressive from the start and didn’t allow their opponents to settle into any rhythm. Mirza-Hingis then quickly moved to a 4-0 lead in the second set after breaking Vania and Alla in the second and fourth games, respectively.
