ISLAMABAD - The discussion on current law and order situation in the country was initiated in the National Assembly on Saturday in the absence of authorities concerned including Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Minister of State on Interior, Secretary Interior and others. During the debate, Senior Vice President of PML-Q, Sheikh Waqas Akram, warned the government that terrorists were regrouping in Punjab and it was the right time to motivate police force against them. CIA and Special Branch have been informing the concerned authorities for quick action against terror suspects but the authorities are reluctant to take action, Waqas said and added that the government was silent over the issue because their children were safe. Punjab situation should be addressed, otherwise rulers would flee the country and people would be left on the mercy of terrorists, he emphasised. He also urged the politicians to play their role in this regard and stand united to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country. He alleged that Islamabad administration had rented out their houses at the rate of $ 10,000 per house to Americans and, therefore, it did not take action against them. Commenting on Richard Holbrooke statement on Kerry-Lugar Act, he questioned who had given him the right to decide who was with Taliban and who was against them. Americans are going to start talk with Taliban to bring peace in Afghanistan but we are fighting against them. What will we do if America succeeds in talks? Waqas asked. MNA Palwasha Behram urged the government to benefit from the strategic position of the country and evolve a strategy in this regard. Despite great sacrifices, we have failed to play a leading role in regional politics, she added. Humayun Saifullah said that the ongoing operation against militants should not be called as 'war on terror because it would hamper investment inflow in the country. He was of the view that war was fought between states and not within the country. He added that only a few misguided elements were creating law and order situation in the country and they should be dealt with an effective strategy. MNA Jamila Gilani said, Our policies propped up militancy and we need more reforms in FATA. Earlier, Presiding Officer Riaz Hussain Pirzada asked Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Mohammad Gondal to note the points of the MPs as Interior Minister, Minister of State on Interior and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs were not present in the House.
