Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said the PPP led government will continue its policy of complete independence for media. He was talking to Governor Punjab Salman Taseer who called on him at the State Guest House here on Sunday.The strength of democratic institutions lies in the supremacy of the parliament and an independent media for which the government was making an all out effort, Gilani said. Prime Minister Gilani said, Pakistan Peoples Party has made sacrifices for the cause of democracy and it will continue its efforts to strengthen the root of democracy and democratic culture. He said the government would continue its role for political reconciliation in the country, adding, political parties would be taken into confidence on all issues of national importance. There is no system better than democracy to fight against terrorism and extremism, he added. The prime minister said governments at provincial and federal level were making utmost efforts to ensure protection of lives and property of citizens. The governor praised the efforts of the government for the promotion of political reconciliation, tolerance and democraticculture in the country. Short and long term measures taken by the government to narrow the demand and supply gap for electricityin the country are of great importance, the governor added. Salman Taseer expressed his confidence that the government would steer the country out of challenges on all fronts.
