LAKKI MARWAT - The association of all retired gazetted officers and general pensioners held a meeting here on Wednesday to discuss problems being faced by retired employees. A retired college teacher Haji Zarwali Khan Marwat presided over the meeting, which was attended by pensioners in large number.

The participants expressed concerned over delay in resolving the problems of pensioners and said that despite repeated promises and announcement the government could not implement its plan to make the process of payment of monthly pension to the employees through an easy way. 

“The retired aged employees have to wait in long queues for hours to receive their pension amount”, they maintained. They also expressed concern over the closure of automated teller machine (ATM) of Habib Bank Limited Lakki branch on weekly and national holidays and demanded of the higher authorities concerned to implement the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari regarding making the process of pension payment easy.

They said that the authorities concerned should ensure payment of insurance money to the retired employees besides they should facilitate the pensioners with fifty percent increase in medical allowance. The association’s leaders also demanded of the relevant quarters to pay Rs 50000 along with arrears to the pensioners under benevolent fund head. 

12 gamblers arrested

Meanwhile, the city police busted a gang of gamblers and arrested twelve people red handed in Darra Pezu town.

DPO Muhammad Idrees was informed that local and gamblers from neighbouring Tank and DI Khan districts had come to Darra Pezu town and they were busy playing a bet on quails’ fight near a dry water nullah.

Upon that a police party of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station headed by SH Mashal Khan raided the place and arrested as many as 12 gamblers.

They included Ghani Rehman, Zahid Khan, Akhtar Munir, Farman, Rizwan, Muhammad Khan, Masoodur Rehman, Muhammad Akram, Nasrullah, Azeem Khan, Noor Aslam and Dildar. Police recovered stake/bet money of Rs 14880 and gambling birds from them and registered a case under relevant section of law.
