There was a time when it was compulsory for the public transport such as rickshaws and taxis to have meters to charge fare at per-kilometre rate. Passengers usually complained about the rigging of these meters as majority of these transporters were seen either arguing or fighting with passengers on the issue of speedy and tampered meters due to which they were being overcharged. Then came a time when the transporters stopped charging by the meters, though they had meters installed on their vehicles. They insisted on demanding the fare on their own free will. Now things have gone totally out of control as we do not see any meters installed on either rickshaws or taxies. The authorities have not paid any attention to this issue and the people continue to suffer. I request the authorities concerned to look into this matter and help the public to pay the transporters a reasonable fare.
