Lawyers to mark ‘off-day’ for holiday on Iqbal Day

LAHORE - The Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) has announced a strike on Monday (tomorrow) to protest against the cancellation of Iqbal Day’s public holiday on November 9.
The Lahore Bar Association also supported the call of the provincial bar council and announced boycott of courts on the Iqbal Day. However, Lahore High Court Bar Association did not welcome the strike call.
PbBC vice chairperson Farah Ejaz Baig said the lawyers in the province would not appear before the courts to plea their cases and would observe Iqbal day as per tradition.
LBA president Ch Ishtiaq A. Khan said the federal government by cancelling the holiday negated the national ideology. He said the LHC should have not cancelled the holiday in light of the government’s notification.
LHCBA’s president Pir Masood Chishti has said that there is no reason to observe strike on Iqbal Day.
