Islamabad/Mohmand - Another son of the soil, Army Captain Zarghaam Fareed, embraced martyrdom while neutralising an IED detected at Mohmad Gat in Mohmand District on Wednesday.
Sepoy Rehan of Bomb Disposal team got critically injured. 25-year-old Capt Zarghaam was unmarried and belonged to Sargodha.
Security sources told media that Capt Zarghaam Fareed died on the spot and sepoy Rehan sustained serious injuries when an IED they were trying to defuse went off in the area of Sheikh Baba Pesto Kandow in Safi Tehsil. The injured was shifted to Mohmad Gat Hospital for treatment.
After the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and also conducted search operation in the adjoining areas.
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of Captain Zarghaam. In his condolence message, the prime minister said that sacrifices of such brave soldiers of the motherland shall not go waste.
He said we shall consolidate our gains and take our country to its rightful destination of peace and prosperity.
According to ISPR, Namaz-e-Janaza of Shaheed Capt Zarghaam was held at Peshawar Cantonment and his body was dispatched to his ancestral town for burial with full military honour.
KP Governor Shah Farman, provincial ministers Lieutenant General Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood, Corps Commander, IGFC KP, Major General Asif Ghafoor, DG ISPR and number of other civil military officials attended the funeral prayer.
Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said in his tweet that “Captain Zarghaam Fareed embraced martyrdom while neutralising an IED detected at Mohmad Gat in Mohmand Distt. While Sepoy Rehan of Bomb Defusal team also got critically injured” while defusing the IED.
Later on, Maj-General Asif Ghafoor used his personal Twitter account to share that Captain Zarghaam belonged to his unit. “Amidst national and professional pride, personally grieved on losing a youngster from my unit,” he wrote and shared three pictures of the officer who laid his life for his country.

Staff Reporter from Sargodha adds: Army captain Zarghaam Fareed was laid to rest with full military honour in Sargodha.
His funeral prayer was offered at the ground of Government Poly Technical Institute on PAF Road Sargodha. A large number of people from all walks of life including relatives, friends and military officers attended the funeral. An army contingent paid salute to the martyr and later floral wreaths were laid at his grave on the behalf of President of Pakistan and Chief of the Army Staff.
The captain was resident of Gulshan-e-Saddique locality of Sargodha city.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Captain Zarghaam Fareed had offered supreme sacrifice for the defence of motherland and security of its people.
The minister, in a statement, paid tribute to the martyred officer and said the brave armed forces of Pakistan were rendering great sacrifices for defending the country and they were pride of the nation.
The minister said the officers and Jawans of the valiant armed forces by laying their lives in the war against terrorism had proved how much they loved martyrdom, he added.
Fawad prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and for early recovery of the injured army soldier.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar also paid rich tributes to the bravery and courage of Capt Zarghaam.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the chief minister extended heartfelt condolences to his heirs and prayed for early recovery of injured Sepoy Rehan.
