Besset in global world

One could not agree more with Major Zahid Salam ('Our revenge against Raj, Readers Column, dated 6.10.09) about the English-speaking abilities of two of our distinguished political luminaries, Rehman Malik and Sheikh Rashid Ahmed. Each has enlightened the audience with their oratory in chaste 'English on our electronic media on various occasions. I would dare add one more name to the list; the evergreen Jehangir Badar who actually deserves the honour to lead the pack of these Anglish-speaking greats. Mr. Badars entirely indigenous term 'the global world, that he is wont to use with gay abandon on every occasion, is a classical example of his declamatory skills in our adopted 'talk-show lingo. I am familiar with the term 'global village but 'global world has been a revelation to me. If the former two are taking revenge from the Raj by their rape of English (the language), the later has virtually written the most befitting epitaph for the language as revenge against English, the nation. -DR.
