11 drown in River Indus near Layyah

LAYYAH (INP) - At least 11 members of a family drowned in the Indus River near the district Thursday. According to sources in the family, 11 members of a family, out to enjoy boating in the River Indus, met a tragic fate as they died after drowning near the Layyah district. The sources added that 12-year-old boy, Asim, skidded off the boat, ending up himself at the mercy of deep water. In a subsequent bid to save him, two real sisters and his mother jumped into the river which followed jumping from remaining six women and girls. However, local people and rescue officials managed to save Asim. Women and children were among the dead, they said, adding that the bodies of five women and a girl were retrieved while efforts were underway to rescue the rest.
