LAHORE The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) syndicate on Friday approved the annual budget, a separate University College for intermediate students and restructuring of the institution and faculties as well. Reconstitution of six-member search committee, nomination of members of Academic Council, Advanced Studies, Research Board and all recommendations forwarded by the selection boards were also approved. The 43rd meeting of LCWU syndicate was held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor. According to a press release, the university will spend Rs 830.631 million on restructuring the institution. In her briefing, the VC told the syndicate that strategic vision of LCWU was to maximise number of varsity graduates to take up employment, enhance quality of learning, teaching and research. She said the LCWU Vision 2020 though forward looking is rooted deeply in the mission of the university as laid down by the Syndicate since inception. The Syndicate members endorsed the vision of the university. In view of the recent advances in various fields of studies and emergence of new disciplines, the VC proposed restructuring of the existing faculties including merging of departments, renaming of departments and setting up of new departments. According to the new plan Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences would be consisted of departments of Applied Psychology, Home Economics, International Relations, Mass Communication, History, Islamic Studies, Philosophy, Social Work, Statistics, Political Science and Pakistan Studies. Faculty of Natural Sciences will cover Biotechnology & Microbiology, Botany, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology and Pharmacy. Management Sciences, Economics and Administrative Sciences (New) will make faculty of Management and Administrative Science whereas Faculty of Engineering and Technology will look after Architecture Department (New), Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. The committee approved setting up of new institutes including Women Institute of Leadership and Learning (WILL), Institute of Design and Visual Arts, Institute of Education and Institute of Languages and Culture which will cover eight disciplines of languages including Chinese and German. The Syndicate approved to launch of the Day Care Centre at LCWU with improved facilities to support the community in the university with young children during work and study hours. The VC told that undergraduate and post graduate programmes of LCWU had expanded over the period of last nine years. Therefore, she said, the management of Intermediate of College required independent administrative setup. Syndicate approved independent setup of Intermediate College along with the appointment of the Principal w.e.f. March 2012. Syndicate also approved re-designation of Posts for Chief Security Officer, Director Administration, Project Director, with transport facility and a committee for revenue generation. Syndicate committee also approved to forward recommendation to Federal Government to grant Sitar-e-Imtiaz for former VC Prof Dr Bushra Mateen for her gracious services for Lahore College for Women University.
