Sindh to implement SC orders

KARACHI - Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan said on Friday the provincial government would implement the orders of the apex court with regards to its verdict handed down on the suo motu case of Karachi violence. After chairing a meeting held to review the implementation of the Supreme Courts orders, Wassan said police authorities had been directed to take necessary steps in the light of the judgment. The minister, while talking to reporters, said that all steps highlighted by the apex court in its ruling would be implemented in letter and sprit. The government would, added Wassan, table a bill in the Sindh Assembly to curb the menace of extortion. He further said that the surgical operation against criminals would continue until peace was maintained in the cosmopolitan. During the meeting, Wassan directed that transfers and postings of police officers must be made purely on the basis of merit. SIU vows to continue protes: Throughout the country, protest rallies were taken out and demonstrations were held following a strike call given by Sunni Ittehad Council in protest against the conviction of Mumtaz Qadri, the assassin of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, said a press release issued Friday. Addressing a large gathering at the Karachi Press Club after Friday prayers, the speakers vowed to fight for the freedom of Qadri. Central leader of Sunni Ittehad Council Tariq Mehboob said the countrywide strike in protest against the conviction of Mumtaz Qadri and also to get him freed from prison, has proved to be referendum in this regard. Citing Raymond Daviss case, CIA contractor accused of killing two persons in Lahore recently, speakers urged the authorities to take up Qadris case on priority basis and respect publics stance on the matter. They announced to continue their protests until Mumtaz Qadris freedom. The protestors included President Central JUP (Karachi) Sufi Arshad ul Qadri, Maulana Faisal Azizi, Maulana Ameen Naqshbandi and others.
