SIALKOT - Federal Minister for National Regulations and Services Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that billions of rupees had been distributed among the deserving people under Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to reduce poverty and improve socioeconomic condition of the people.

Addressing debate cards distribution ceremony under BISP here, she said that data of the registered beneficiaries had been released and the procedure of BISP was being simplified to facilitate the deserving people.

Later, addressing party workers in Kuba Chak, she termed sincere party workers to asset to Pakistan People's Party, saying that rights of the workers would be protected at all cost.

The PPP is the custodian of democracy and struggling for the strengthening the democratic institutions and conspiracies to derail the government will be foiled with the support of the masses," she said. Dr Firdous said that the PPP was the symbol of federation because of its deep roots across the country including Azad Kashmir. "Under a planned conspiracy, the Balochistan issue is being hyped which is highly condemnable although the PPP led government has been making strenuous efforts to resolve the issue politically," Dr Firdous described. She said that the government would address the economic, political and social problems of the people of Balochistan and would eliminate their sense of deprivation.

The federal minister stressed upon the people that they should reject turncoats in the upcoming elections because such elements were not sincere with the nation and country. The general elections, she said, would be held on time as the PPP-led government would accomplish its constitutional tenure. At this crucial juncture unity is direly needed to cope with the multifarious problems and challenges and steer the country out of crisis," she pointed out. Dr Firdous claimed that some anti-democratic elements were trying to weaken the country just for their vested interest while PPP had been struggling put it on the path to prosperity.
