RAWALPINDI – District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar has directed the authorities concerned to make arrangement for strict monitoring of upcoming five-day anti-polio campaign starting from Oct 15.

He said no negligence on part of officials concerned should be tolerated during the campaign and all out efforts should be made to make the campaign a success. No one would be allowed to refuse to perform the duties to save the children of Rawalpindi district from any disability by suffering of polio disease, he added.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held here the other day to review the arrangements of upcoming anti-polio campaign. The meeting was attended by Administrator Rawal Town Saif Anwar Jappa, Administrator Potohar Town Talat Mehmud Gongal, Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal, District Officer (DO) Health Dr. Khalid Randhawa, EDO Education Qazi Zahoor-ul-Haq, DO Social Welfare Malik Shafiq Awan, representatives of teaching hospitals, NGOs, Population Welfare departments and other health care departments.

EDO Health Dr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal and DO Health Dr. Khalid Randhawa briefed the meeting about the arrangements of the anti-polio campaign. They informed that a target to vaccinate 708,000 children under five years of age has been fixed for the campaign.

The meeting was told that 1397 mobile teams would be constituted to visit house to house to vaccinate the children. Special vaccination centres would also be established in 258 health vicinities like teaching hospitals, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Rural Health Centres and Basic Health Units in the district.

They further informed that 85 teams would be constituted to perform the duties in this connection on transit points, airport, railway station,public parks, wagon and bus stands. They told that 267 Area Incharges would be deputed to supervise the campaign at union council level and 52 Zonal Supervisors would monitor the area of four to five union councils to make this campaign a success.

DCO Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar directed the Health department to make the arrangements for the announcements in mosques particularly of rural areas with the cooperation of Auqaf department to spread awareness among the parents of the children about the importance of this campaign.   He said that no one would be allowed to create trouble for the teams of anti-polio campaign. Police department had been directed to lodge FIRs against the elements tried to stop or attack the mobile teams to discontinue the campaign.

This is a national cause and the desired targets would be achieved at all costs, he added.
