KARACHI - A senior doctor of Orangi Town’s Qatar Hospital, including three people were gunned down in separate incidents of target killing here on Monday.
A senior doctor serving as the medicolegal officer of the Qatar Hospital was shot dead inside his private clinic at Orangi Town here on Monday.
The incident took place when Irfanuddin Qureshi, 54, was sitting in his private clinic at Sector 1-C in Orangi Town. Gunmen came and shot the victim at least four times and later escaped. He died on the spot. The body was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to family.
The victim was the resident of North Nazimabad locality. He left behind three daughters and a son. He was associated with the Qatar Hospital since 1992 and serving as MLO from the last five years. Police officials have failed to ascertain the motive behind the murder. Police said the victim was not under threat by extortion mafia and had no personal enmity. The actual motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained. Police said he was the sympathiser of MQM. Separately, an alleged Lyari gangster, associated with the notorious Sheraz Comrade group, was shot dead in Moosa Lane area of Lyari. He was identified as Ayaz Niazi. SHO Munir Chandio said the victim had a criminal record. He had also been imprisoned when he was caught by the police in a murder case in 2008. The officer suspected that the victim was killed by his own companions on suspicion of being a police informant. Further investigation was underway.
