KARACHI - A court in Karachi denied a request for bail by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MNA Shahjehan Baloch.
He was arrested in connection to the murder of gangster Arshad Pappu.
A court in Karachi said that bail was not an option until after witnesses recorded their statements.
Alleged Lyari gangster Arshad Pappu, his brother Yasir Arafat, and their confidant Juma Shera were killed on the night of March 16. According to the FIR registered on the complaint of Arshad Pappu's widow, the victims were killed after being subjected to torture and the bodies of her husband and his brother were thrown in manholes in Kalakot locality after being mutilated. She also alleged that the offence was committed at the behest of Shehjahan Baloch.
A middle-aged man was killed and another wounded in a firing incident that took place inside a seminary in Manghopir area. He was identified as Ghulam Nabi, 55, and the injured as Wudood, 50. SHO Ghulam Hussain Korai said the victim hailed from Khuzdar and had arrived here to visit his friend who is the administrative of the seminary. Police said the victim and some students of the seminary were sleeping inside the seminary when unidentified armed men entered and targeted the victims. The officer said the incident took place on offering resistance in a robbing bid.
