LAHORE - Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Monday said he will resign if the department will be privatised.

“If I can’t bring down the Railways deficit and the department is privatized I will quit,” said the minister while meeting with mediamen at Railways headquarter.

The minister maintained that the Railways would not be needed to be privatised, adding that the losses would be reduced in near future. He said that officers within the department would be given responsibilities on key posts and no person from DMG would be appointed on vacant posts.

“We will launch metro train project in Lahore with the cooperation of Lahore Development Authority and the Punjab government,” announced Khawaja Saad Rafique, adding that the PPP and MQM cooperation was sought for Karachi circular railways.

He said that the train would run between Kalashah Kaku and Kasur railways stations. He said that another train would be launched from Islamabad, Murree and Muzafarbad with the cooperation of Capital Development Authority. He said that billions of revenue could be earned if security on track in Balochistan could be improved so trains could be operated from China to Central Europe.

“Rawalpindi and Karachi Cantt railway stations were being converted into model railway stations where all modern facilities will be provided to passengers.”

He said Quaid-e-Azam (RA) had approved lemon yellow and green colour for railways so all other colours in trains and platforms would be changed according to the approved colour.
