LAHORE - The returning officer will start scrutiny of the nomination papers of candidates for the local bodies’ election of Sindh and Punjab on Thursday (today).

Previously, the Election Commission of Pakistan had sought nomination papers from the candidates and continued accepting the papers till 4:00 pm. Wednesday was the last day to submit nomination papers.

Punjab districts where local government elections would be held in the third phase include Layyah, Rajanpur, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Khushab, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan while six districts of Sindh include Karachi East, Karachi West, Karachi Central, Karachi South, Malir and Korangi. The election will held in said districts on December 03. The scrutiny process will start today and will continue till Oct 13. In third phase of LG polls, the election will be held in 12 districts of Punjab and six district of Sindh.

Last date for filing of appeals against acceptance or rejection of appeals would be October 30 and tribunals would decide appeals by November 05. Last date for withdrawal of candidature would be November 06 and the revised list of candidates would be published on November 7.
