Statistics reveal Mardan tops list on arrest of POs in KP

Peshawar - As many as 120 proclaimed offenders (POs) have been arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during last two months while Mardan is atop the list in terms of arrests of the wanted men during the period, according to the statistics released by the Central Police Office here.

The statistics state that during intelligence-based operations, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested 120 terrorists, many of whom having head money. The maximum numbers of the wanted men, ie 39, were arrested in Mardan region, 26 in Malakand, 18 in Peshawar, 30 in Kohat and seven in Hazara region.

Also, the report says that 3,066 search and strike operations were carried out under National Action Plan across KP during last two months, in which 37444 suspects were arrested and as many as 14,660 cases registered.

Talking to The Nation, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Moazzam Jah Ansari said that he had directed all regional police officers (RPOs), district police officers (DPOs) and heads of different wings to tighten the noose around proclaimed offenders, especially those carrying head money. 

“Besides proclaimed offenders and terrorists, we also have launched operations against the mafias involved in drugs and land grabbing. For drugs, we have set up Narcotics Eradication Teams (NETs) in all districts of KP and the NETs specifically focus on elimination of drugs and arresting drug smugglers,” the IGP added.

The IGP said that while there exist other crimes too, the society can witness a good change if drugs, land mafia and proclaimed offenders are tackled.

Separately, 3,464 wanted men were nabbed in actions against by the local police stations. These included 1251 arrests made by the police in Mardan region, 691 in Peshawar, 471 in Bannu, 332 in Kohat, 167 in Dera Ismail Khan, 188 in Malakand and 249 in Hazara.

In the land grabbing cases, 493 people were arrested and 164 cases lodged across the province during last two months. 125 arrests were made in Mardan, 116 in Peshawar, 159 in Bannu, 8 in Kohat, 42 in Dera Ismail Khan, 15 in Malakand and 28 in Hazara ranges.

In addition, 2,655 cases were lodged and 2,778 accused arrested in operations against drug dealers during last two months while 224kg ice, 402kg heroin and 4033kg hashish were also seized.
