Ban the banquets

This is a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Since Nawaz Sharif banned more than one dishes in marriage parties to help the poor marry off their children within their limited resources, people have been very happy with this law. Now I want the CJ to give a ruling against lavish dinners, lunches and high teas organised at the government level on the occasions of inauguration ceremonies or public festivals. Lakhs of rupees are spent on multiple-course menus and, sometimes, caterers from Islamabad are called in to serve the elite gatherings. By banning, or at least imposing a restriction on the budget for such purposes, we can save a lot of public money. -MRS MASOOD, Lahore, September 5.
