Paramedics stage sit-in outside Nawaz residence

LAHORE Hundreds of paramedics held a sit in outside Model Town residence of PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif for 10 hours to press for the demand of implementation of service structure already passed by the Punjab Assembly and approved by the Chief Minister. The paramedics also blocked Ferozepur Road for over three hours, creating massive traffic jams on one of the busiest arteries for most of the day. After failure of dialogue with MPA Dr Assad Ashraf, the Punjab CM sent Parliamentary Secretary Health Dr Saeed Elahi to give assurance to paramedics on his behalf for fulfilling their demand of implementation of service structure. Dr Saeed Saeed Elahi informed the paramedics that the CM has constituted a four member committee that would submit recommendations within three weeks. The paramedics postponed protest for three weeks. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saeed Elahi said that the CM would fulfil his promise of implementing revised service structure of paramedics. He said that the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a four member committee comprising him (Dr Saeed), representatives of Secretary Health and Finance and President Paramedics Punjab Malik Munir to evaluate demands. He assured that the process of implementation of service structure would be completed within three weeks. While announcing postponement of protest for three weeks, Malik Munir expressed hope that the CM would honour his commitment with the paramedics regarding revised service structure.
