PESHAWAR - Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani visited Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami chief Maulana Samiul Haq in Nowshera on Saturday and requested him to play his role in recovery of his son.

Ali Haider Gilani was taken captive on May 02 this year during an election campaign in Multan.

The former premier told newsmen that the disappearance of his son was his personal matter, so he could not boycott May 11 general elections. He however requested Haq to play his due role in recovery of his son from Taliban captivity.  Interacting with reporters, Samiul Haq said Ali Gilani's recovery was not that difficult, but there had been some obstacles and demands involved in it. He said he would play his role in recovery of former premier’s son.  After Ali Gilani went missing, an outfit introducing itself as Al-Mansooreen Brigade claimed the responsibility for the abduction. Abu Yazeed, their spokesperson, calling from an Afghan phone number, informed Gilani’s family they would soon release a video of Ali Gilani along with their demands.  About talks with Taliban, Yousuf Raza Gilani rejected that wars were a solution to any issue. He said his party, Pakistan People’s Party, would help the government achieve durable peace in the country. He recalled that several all-party conferences had been called in the past, but no practical action could be taken to chalk out a plan against militancy and terrorism.  About Karachi law and order problem, Gilani said a targeted operation was being proposed for the port city when the issue was political in nature.  Concerning war on terror and proposed all-parties conference, Haq said if all the stakeholders decided to come out of this war, then the US would not be in a position to mount pressure on Pakistan.

He said in upcoming APC, there should be an increased stress on implementation of decisions they take.
