LAHORE - The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) proposed again to suspend the Pakistan’s membership of the IOC.

According to information made available here, the executive board met on Saturday ahead of the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires to discuss a range of issues, including updates on the progress being made in future Olympic Games host cities Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and PyeongChang 2018.

After reviewing the overall situation in Pakistan, the executive board directed the headquarters to make necessary arrangements to suspend Pakistan. The executive board once again made its concerns known against the activities going on in relation to the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and said that it closely monitored all developments. The POA led by Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan is recognised by the IOC whereas the Pakistan government has created a parallel POA body headed by Maj Gen (retd) Akram Sahi.  There were recent reports that the officials of Arif Hasan’s organisation were manhandled by armed people. The executive board directed Pakistan government to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
