KARACHI - The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been subsidising the domestic consumers without any distinction, whether rich or poor.
This was stated by Managing Director of the SSGC Zuhair Siddiqui, in an interaction with the media at a hotel here on Saturday. He said that SSGC was one of the biggest gas utility serving 2.6 million consumers.
To a question, he made it clear that Sindh’s gas is not being given to the Punjab and added that there is no truth in such a notion. `We are unable to meet our own requirement’, he further stated.
Replying to another question, Zuhair Siddiqui said that the SSGC is not in the gas exploration business.
However, he stated that there has been no major find and that only small wells have been discovered. The Sui Southern Gas Company chief said that it has been the constant endeavour of his company to seek ways to enhance the gas supply.
To a question, he referred to the payment difficulties with the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and added `We are supply the gas to the KESC for the sake of the people of Karachi’.
He was of the view that almost same was the case with the Pakistan Steel Mills. ‘If we stop supply of gas the blast furnace would shut and the Steels Mills would stop functioning.
Zuhair Siddiqui pointed out that the SSGC has entered into an agreement with the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for the installation of LPG stations. He also stated that the first shipment of the LPG was expected in the year 2014.
