ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has taken a strong exception to the statement of PTI Chairman Imran Khan wherein he had accused the FBR chairman of money laundering for PM Nawaz Sharif.

The minister, in a statement issued here on Wednesday, termed the allegations as totally false and fabricated, saying Imran Khan had not provided any evidence in support of his allegation. “The FBR chairman is known for his hard work, integrity and honesty,” Dar said.

“It is unfortunate that without any evidence, Imran Khan has attempted to tarnish the image of an officer, who has shown remarkable performance in revenue collection, which have increased by 60 percent in three years of the PML (N) government,” he added.

PTI Chief Imran Khan had on Saturday accused that FBR Chairman Nisar Khan was doing money laundering for the prime minister to Dubai. He had also criticised the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for supporting Nawaz.

It was not the first time that Imran Khan is accusing senior officials of the FBR for supporting Nawaz. In last month, the PTI chief, in a public rally, had named FBR’s two senior officials, including Member Inland Revenue (IR) Operation Dr Irshad and Special Assistant (SA) to FBR Chairman Amjad Tiwana for fixing the tax records of PM Nawaz Sharif and his family members. The minister further stated that such baseless statements and allegations could only demoralize the employees of the FBR and affect the efficiency of the organisation.

He showed full confidence in the FBR management and expressed the hope that before leveling such unfounded allegations. Imran would consider the adverse impact of such statements not only on the individual’s reputation but also on national institutions.

Interestingly, neither the finance minister nor the FBR chairman is interested in initiating any legal proceedings against Imran on this issue.
