ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Saturday allowed two Supreme Court Judges, Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Justice M Javaid Butter, to retire from service with immediate effect. Spokesperson to the President, former senator Farhatullah Babar, said that after the July 31, 2009 SC judgement, both Justice Khokhar and Justice Butter applied to the President opting to retire from service with immediate effect. He said that the President on Saturday signed the summary sent by the Prime Minister in that regard. He said that Justice Khokhar and Justice Butter were appointed as SC judges on January 10, 2002 and July 31, 2004 respectively. He said that under Article 206(1) of the Constitution, a judge of the Supreme Court or of a high court might resign his office by writing under his hand addressed to the President. Both Judges who had been allowed to retire were entitled to pension and other privileges in accordance with the Supreme Court Judges (leave, pension and privileges) Order 1997, he said.
