An ogre called OGRA

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has reduced the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by 27 paisas as per a news item. One feels embarrassed to read such cruel jokes being played on this nation. The reduction announced is merely 0.5%, a crass attempt to ridicule the general masses. Whenever OGRA has to increase the prices, it comes in multiple of rupees but, unfortunately, reduction is in measly paisas. Looks like the government is trying to fleece the people through this as a number of CNG pumps in Islamabad/Rawalpindi are selling CNG at as low as Rs 42 per kg. And they clearly earn a lot of profit even by selling at Rs 42/kg. In some parts of Punjab, the CNG rates are as low as Rs. 38 per kg. -ABDUL RAUF, Fateh Jang, via e-mail, August 7.
