LAHORE - The Court of Additional District Sessions, Lahore, Saturday extended till August 15 next bail interim period earlier granted to former PML-N MPA Shumaila Rana in the case registered against her with Ghalib Market Police station on the allegations of using stolen credit card. Investigating officer informed the Court that the complainant and the accused have reached a patch-up, as the former does not want to anymore pursue the case against Shumaila Rana who however has joined the investigations. On that the court has called for the appearance of the complainant, Muqeetul Islam, on the next date of hearing. The applicant counsel also prayed for extension in the interim bail period, which was granted by the court till August 15 next. Later, talking to media men outside the courtroom, Shumaila said, she would prove her innocence before the court. She replied 'no-comments to a question that how the credit card in the name of one Zara Malik came to her. During the course of talk a lawyer tried to stop a reporter of a private TV Channel from covering the event but other members of the bar intervened to let him perform his duties. President Lahore Bar Association Rana Zia Abdul Rehman said after that lawyers and media are like brothers and their relationship is unbreakable. He said the legal fraternity highly respected the freedom of Press. Notice issued to former CJ, CCPO - The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Lahore, Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad Saturday issued notice to former Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry, the CCPO and the SSP for August 12 on a petition filed to seek action against the police persons who resorted to what the petitioner says, brutal lathi charge, torture, and massive arrests of the lawyers on November 5,2007 when the lawyers throughout the country were protesting the PCO of November 3, 2007. The petitioner, advocate Ghulam Rasool, says on the said date the police entered the court premises at both level in the City allegedly on the instance of the then Chief Justice of LHC and made random use of teargas shelling inside the court premises and lathi charge and arrests of the lawyers. The petitioner says this all was carried in violation of the law therefore action may be taken against the respondents and 200 unknown policemen. The court has issued notice to the respondent for August 12 next.
